- The California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA) has been administering the California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam since 1990. The exam is one of three that is recognized by the Medical Board of California.

- The California Medical Assistants Association (CMAA) is a professional organization for medical assistants in the state of California, and is dedicated to the advancement of continuing education for medical assistants.
